Chaves County reports 66 new COVID-19 cases on Thanksgiving

The state of New Mexico reported 1,708 new cases of COVID-19 and 18 deaths related to the virus in its daily update Thanksgiving day.

Thursday’s new cases included 66 new cases in Chaves County.

A total of 31 counties and two correctional facilities reported new cases Thursday, led by Bernalillo with 671, 182 in Doña Ana County, 120 in Sandoval County, 119 in San Juan County and 100 in McKinley County.

The state’s total number of cases is now 89,796, including 4,282 in Chaves County. The Roswell Correctional Facility has had 223 cases.

Of the 18 deaths, seven were from Bernalillo County, five from Doña Ana County and two were from San Miguel County. Eddy, Sandoval, San Juan and Santa Fe counties each had one death.

The ages of the deceased ranged from two men in their 50s from Bernalillo and Sandoval counties to a woman in her 90s from Doña Ana County. Ten were hospitalized and 14 had underlying health conditions. Six were residents of long-term care facilities.

The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in New Mexico is now 1,469 including 35 in Chaves County.

As of Thursday, 880 people are hospitalized in the state for COVID-19.

Chaves County’s average number of new daily cases of COVID-19 between Nov. 10 and Nov. 23 was 151.1 and its test positivity rate was 23.3%, both above the state’s targets for gating criteria.
