With profound sadness and gratitude, we announce the unexpected passing of Joe B. Gomez on November 5, 2020. Joe was born in Artesia, New Mexico and became a resident of Hagerman, New Mexico for many years where he grew up with his aunt and uncle who became his parents Fermin and Stella Gomez and all of the Gomez brothers to include Gilbert Gomez, Clancy Gomez, Robert Gomez, Daniel Gomez, David Gomez, Edward Gomez, Sonny Gomez, Billy Gomez and sister Olivia Reid. Upon birth, Joe’s parents, Hilario Brito and Teresa Gomez, were unable to care for him but he was blessed to have five sisters Lupe Beltran, Lucilla Brito, Marta Grado, Dora Campos, Estella Saiz, and one brother Sammy Brito.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents Fermin and Stella Gomez, Hilario and Teresa Brito, step mother Doña Micaela and brothers Clancy Gomez, Robert Gomez, and Sonny Gomez.

Joe is survived by his wife Beatrice Vasquez and her family. He was a resident of El Paso, Texas and Chihuahua, Mexico for several years. He is also survived by his beautiful children from his first marriage daughter Jennifer Gomez-Chavez (Lawrence) and their children Derek Chavez and Monique Chavez and his son Little Joe Gomez.

A celebration of Joe’s life and burial of ashes will be held at a later date in Artesia where he will be laid to rest with his parents Fermin and Stella Gomez who championed his goals and dreams. He was dearly loved by many nephews who he proudly followed on Facebook and called frequently. We will forever miss his “Que Paso” greeting when he called every week. His memory and legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren, family and friends. A full obituary will be published at the time of burial.
