Letter: Many would be disenfranchised if absentee voting curtailed

In response to John King’s letter that only in-person voting should be allowed would disenfranchise a large number of qualified voters.

I am 87 years old and have in all those years missed only one vote and that was due to a move. I was too late to register in my new home area. My work required a great deal of travel. I voted many times by absentee ballot while overseas.

Now I am retired and am visually impaired. The ballots are printed in a small font that is impossible for me to read. I now vote absentee and use a reading machine to mark my ballot. I am sure there are many elderly citizens that are unable to vote in person due to medical conditions.

It would be unfair to ban absentee voting. New Mexico has a very good system that works.
