The First Friday downtown event tonight will feature a window decorations contest and a food drive to benefit a local nonprofit that serves the homeless.

First Friday is held each month. It is coordinated by MainStreet Roswell to encourage downtown shopping. Events typically begin about 5 p.m.

The “Radio-Active” food drive is sponsored by two local radio stations, KBIM 94.9 The Country Giant and KKBE 93.7 The Crash. They will collect nonperishable food items for the Roswell Homeless Coalition. Donations can be dropped off in front of the Chaves County Courthouse lawn on North Main Street.

Live holiday music will be played, but people are asked not to gather due to continuing COVID-related restrictions on mass gatherings. Instead, people can walk around the courthouse and the downtown area while enjoying the music and the holiday lights that have been installed in the area by volunteers and sponsors Xcel Energy and Richland Auto Group.

MainStreet Roswell is also holding a contest for downtown businesses and stores that decorate their windows for the holidays. The “Parade of Windows Downtown” displays can be seen on Friday. Then people can vote on the MainStreet Roswell Facebook page for the windows they like the best. Five top winners will receive $100 each for their businesses.
