Salvation Army bells are ringing

As of Dec. 3, the Salvation Army bell ringers are out collecting with their Red Kettles at 10 locations in town, which includes all grocery stores. Donations are also accepted on its website. For more information, visit roswellsalvationarmy.org or call 1-800-728-7825.

Join the Roswell Museum and Art Center on its Facebook page in Museum Moments Facebook videos and Space is Awesome on Fridays. There is no specific posting time, so check often. The RMAC Puzzle Room is once again open. Puzzle Room reservations are available during museum visiting hours, Tuesdays through Fridays, from 1 to 5 p.m. To make a reservation, call 575-624-6744.

State parks visitor’s centers and indoor venues remain closed

Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state and local public health authorities, park operations continue to adapt to changing conditions while maintaining public access, particularly outdoor spaces. Before visiting a park, check the park website to determine its operating status. All special events through the end of the calendar year have been canceled. Christmas Remembrance Service

LaGrone Funeral Chapel and Ballard Funeral Home will host a Christmas Remembrance Service from 6 to 7 p.m. at LaGrone Funeral Chapel, 900 S. Santa Saves Christmas

Sheriff Mike Herrington as “Santa” will be from 2 to 4 p.m. downtown at Rustic Essentials Soap Company, 125 N. Main St. Bring toys to donate. All donations benefiting Chaves County CASA will be sanitized by Pandemix LLC. The Grinch will be there as well. For more information, visit its Facebook event page. Salvation Army Christmas praise

The Salvation Army — USA Western Territory, invites the public to its Christmas praise event at 7 p.m. The live online celebration features carols, new music, the Christmas Story and a message from Commissioner Doug Riley. Hopefully Prompt Short Story Podcast

Authors may send in their original short stories for Kyle Bullock’s podcast project, Hopefully Prompt. The short story should have at least 2,500 to 3,500 words. Other artists, such as voice actors and musicians, may request information as well. The Bridges and Borders Art Contest

The Roswell Public Library is hosting The Bridges and Borders Art Contest, which is open to artists ages 6 years to adult. Drop off or email an original  artwork, not exceeding 8.2 by 11 inches, about an experience with bridges and borders. Winning artwork will be categorized by school grade and by an adult and will be announced at the Roswell Big Read 2021 Kick-off virtual event on Jan. 23, 2021. Postponed until after pandemic restrictions lift

Bowl for Kids’ Sake

The annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake, which benefits the nonprofit organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern New Mexico, has been postponed until restrictions due to the COVID-19 crisis are lifted. For more information, visit bbbssenm.org or its Facebook page.
