Tom Dick Dunlap of Roswell passed away Dec. 2. He was 82.

Tom was a native New Mexican, born Aug. 20, 1938, in De Baca County to Charles E. Dunlap and Grace Mary Tudor Dunlap.

He attended elementary and secondary school in Vaughn, where he participated in band, athletics and Future Farmers of America.

After high school graduation, he studied civil engineering at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales and the University of Hawaii.

For several decades of his adult life, he was a cattle rancher, an occupation that had been shared by his father and several others in the Dunlap family. For about 15 years, he owned a ranch north of Roswell. He had been retired for several years prior to his passing.

Tom had been married and divorced twice and had four children from the first marriage. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother, Robert Dunlap.

He was of the Christian faith and asked to be remembered as a happy man.

“The Lord is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.”

(Psalm 118:14)
