Follow COVID-Safe practices to help public schools reopen.

That’s the message of a new public service announcement that includes a Chaves County educator.

The video has been produced by the New Mexico Public Education Department. Elisa Begueria, superintendent of Lake Arthur Municipal Schools, delivers a portion of the message in Spanish while other educators across the state communicate in English and other languages, including sign language.

The video urges New Mexicans to wear masks — as well as practice social distancing, avoid large gatherings and wash their hands — so that COVID-19 cases subside, allowing public schools to reopen.

The announcement concludes with a shot of a Ruidoso High School student sitting at a school desk saying, “Please wear a mask so that I can go back to school.”
