Chaves County reports 36 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday

New Mexico reported 1,174 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday and 40 deaths related to the virus.

The daily update from the New Mexico Department of Health included 36 new cases for Chaves County. No local deaths were reported.

Twenty-nine counties and three correctional facilities reported new cases Wednesday.

The state’s total number of cases of COVID-19 since March is now 133,242. Chaves County has had a total of 6,298 cases.

Bernalillo County led the state in the number of new cases with 337 and also had the highest number of deaths at 16.

Of the other deceased, three each were from Colfax, Lea and Santa Fe counties; two each were from Rio Arriba, San Juan, Taos and Valencia counties; and one each was from Cibola, Curry, Doña Ana, Grant, Guadalupe and Sandoval counties.

The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 2,243 in the state and 81 in Chaves County.

As of Wednesday, 809 people were hospitalized in the state for COVID-19.

In the latest two-week reporting period of Dec. 1 to Dec. 14, Chaves County averaged 121.2 cases per day per 100,000 people and had a test positivity rate of 21.4%, placing it in the red, or very high risk, level of spread of the coronavirus.
