“Joe Joe,” or Uncle Joe as Roswell loved him, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his second family on Christmas Day. On October 12, 1942, he was born to Carlota “Charlotte” Sanchez (Gonzales) in Roswell, NM. Joe Joe was raised and grew up with Double Love, Love from his Gonzales family and his Tobosa Developmental Services family (Honored to Loved him before we were born). He was born and raised all of his life, surrounded by people who poured out an abundance of love, compassion, and understanding.

Grandma Charlotte led the way to his heart with homemade tortillas and pecan pie. Joe Joe knew how to express wanting more and taught us all the definition of a “bottomless pit tummy.” He grew up with his loving families, “Special to our Hearts,” and showed the world around him he was a force to be reckoned with.

Joe Joe ran with life, literally, winning countless medals and ribbons in Track races with the New Mexico Special Olympics. He loved and will miss all of his Ladies as he smiled from ear to ear, tapping his pointer finger to the side of his face for a kiss.

There will be a Viewing at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, December 31, 2020, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited for Joseph S. Gonzales, 78, of Roswell, NM, at 9:30 AM, on Saturday, January 2, 2020, at St. Peter Catholic Church. The Mass will be held after the Rosary (Required: Face Mask) with Fr. Charlie Martinez, O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.

Joe Joe is survived by his nieces and nephews: Suzanna Gonzales and fiancé Phillip Acosta of Roswell, Maria and Kyle Dominguez of Las Cruces, Alicia Gonzales and Jesus Sanchez of Roswell, Raymond and Bianca Gonzales, Brandon Alvarez, Alura Alvarez; sister: Alice Alvarez of Albuquerque. Joe Joe was loved and will be missed by all his great-nieces, great-nephews, sister-in-law Vicky Gonzales, Uncle Paul Gonzales, and Tia Mercy Roybal, as well as all our Gonzales family with love.

Joe Joe enjoyed relaxing on his recliner, watching old movies and comedies, but most of all, he loved being out in the community, cruising around, going to the Joy Center, hearing music at Billie Rays, and most of all going eating out to eat.

Joe Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Carlotta Sanchez Gonzales, brother Raymond Lee Gonzales, brother-in-law Alex Alvarez, Great Nephew Jesus A. Sanchez, and many Tias and Tios.
