Work in area of West Deming and South Lea could also disrupt water service

Street closures are planned to begin Monday, Jan. 4 in the area of the intersection of West Deming Street and South Lea Avenue as city crews replace water mains in advance of the upcoming replacement of Lea Street bridge. This initial work on the water mains is expected to possibly last into February, according to a press release issued by the city.

Crews will be working each weekday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., but the street closures will be in place at all times throughout the duration of the water-main work.

West Deming Street will be closed between South Missouri and South Kentucky avenues. South Lea Avenue will be closed between West Bland and West Summit streets. Local traffic will have access to properties in the closed sections, but other traffic will be diverted.

Motorists are cautioned to pay extra attention while in the area during the work as there will be open trenches present. Motorists are asked to reduce their speeds and obey the traffic-control devices that will be present.
