Terry Davis was welcomed home to spend eternity with our lord and savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. He was born on June 2, 1948 in Memphis, TN. God blessed Terry and his brother, Ronnie, with their adoptive parents, Milton and Lois Davis who preceded Terry in death.

At a young age, Terry excelled at everything he did. His motto was “Do it right, or don’t do it at all!” Terry did it right! He graduated from Roswell High School in 1967 and then attended the New Mexico Military Institute where he was involved with the drill team and a troop leader before joining the U.S. Navy. These experiences led him to his lifelong career in law enforcement. Terry joined the Roswell Police Department in 1974 and retired from his dream job in 1997 after 23 years. During that time, Terry’s love for owning and riding motorcycles, and even the television show “Chips,” fueled his passion to have a motorcycle division at the police department. He then worked tirelessly towards that important goal which became reality in the 1980’s when the official motorcycle division was created. Terry enjoyed and believed in helping people and loved every moment he spent with the Department. His retirement was bittersweet, but he had lined up other jobs and new adventures for his future. Terry stayed active with teaching defensive driving from the 1980’s up until December of 2020. He also enjoyed other hobbies which included hunting and target shooting which he loved and passed that passion on to his children.

Terry was also instrumental in helping develop the Sand Divers Scuba Club in Roswell in the late 1980’s, which assisted local scuba divers and eventually led to opening his own scuba shop, Inland Divers, in the middle of the desert. This helped create and continue his passion for taking breathtaking trips around the world. In his later years, he continued to plan and assist with trips for the club and other new divers. Terry always enjoyed sitting on the beach sipping a good margarita with his wife Mary, family, and friends.

Those left to cherish Terry’s memory are his wife of twenty years, Mary. His sons, Wesley Davis in Arizona, and Jeremy Galloway, wife Heather, their son Jacob in Texas, daughter Adriane Lewis, husband Jesse, son Zachary, daughter Brooke, and his grandchildren in Roswell. Also are Terry’s loved furry canine babies, “Dusty” and “Hydee,” who will miss snuggling with him.

Terry’s life was full, joyful and he felt blessed to have experienced so much. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Terry’s name to the Roswell Humane Society.
