New Mexico Sen. Cliff Pirtle, R-Roswell, of Senate District 32, took the oath of office Friday afternoon at the Chaves County Administrative Center. The oath was administered to Pirtle by U.S. Circuit and Appeals Court Judge Joel Carson III as Pirtle’s son Zeke, 9, held the Bible and his wife Aysia held their daughter Dorthea, 3, and son Hamish, 4. Pirtle was unopposed last November in his bid for reelection in his district, which includes portions of Chaves, Eddy and Otero counties. The regular 60-day session of the New Mexico Legislature is scheduled to begin Jan. 19. Other Roswell lawmakers, all Republicans, were also sworn in at the ceremony: state Reps. Phelps Anderson of House District 66, Candy Ezzell of House District 58 and Greg Nibert of House District 59. Additional photos and information from the ceremony will appear in future editions.
