With profound sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Edna our loving, devoted and beloved MOTHER, Wife, Sister, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and Friend whose lives she touched to many has lost her battle to cancer at the age of 84 on December 17. 2020. Our dear MOTHER passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her husband and children. Remember our MOM by her loving smile, friendly personality and generous heart. Rest in eternal peace MOM. Edna King Lara was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on January 30, 1936 to Henry King and Delfina Catanach.

Edna was a devout catholic and a parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She married Benjamin Lara on July 14, 1951 in Roswell, New Mexico, and has resided here ever since. Edna was preceded in death by her parents Henry King and Delfina Catanach, daughter Theresa Miller, brother Ralph King and sister Suzie Sotelo.

Edna is survived by her husband of 69 years Benjamin Lara, brothers Henry King (Velma) and Raymundo Juarez, children Tony Lara (Rosie), Henry King, Marie Salazar (Isaac), Lucy Solis, Benny Lara (Janet), Beatrice Melendez (Thomas), John Lara (Norma) and son-in-law Gary Miller. Edna was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family of Edna Lara would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to family and friends that were in constant support of our MOTHER during her 7 year battle with cancer. This includes Patsy Martinez, Chris Archuleta, Ophelia Lara, Lucy Armijo, and Judy Portillo. Also thank you to Dr. Emilio Araujo and his staff at the Kymera Cancer Center and to Amanda, a very special person.

A celebration mass was held on Thursday 1-7-2021 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father Charlie Martinez. A rosary prayed by Benny Lara preceded the mass. Afterwards per our MOM’s request, her ashes were laid to rest at the gravesite of her father Henry King at South Park Cemetery here at Roswell, New Mexico.
