The Roswell Police Department wants to make parents aware of a prevalence of local teenagers using illegal vaping products that pose a danger to the teens using them, according to a press release issued by RPD.

Various disposal vaping pens contain THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana. When used in vaping pens, the THC is concentrated and its mind-altering effects and physical impacts are much stronger than those that occur when THC is ingested through marijuana.

This creates a much greater risk of a user suffering an overdose.

The recreational use of these THC-containing vaping pens is legal in some states, but not New Mexico. These products often make their way to Roswell and other parts of New Mexico by people purchasing the vaping pens in bulk in states where they can be legally obtained and then returning to New Mexico to illegally sell them individually at an increased price than what they paid, according to the press release.

An investigation by the Chaves County Metro Narcotics Task Force, made up of agents from RPD, the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office and federal agencies, recently resulted in the seizure of a high quantity of THC vaping pens and other illegal drug-related items from a subject who is accused of selling them.
