Two Chaves County women among state’s 29 COVID deaths

Two more deaths related to COVID-19 and 73 new cases in Chaves County were reported Thursday in the New Mexico Department of Health’s daily update.

The deceased are a woman in her 70s who was a resident of the Sunset Villa Care Center, 1515 Sunset Ave., and a woman in her 90s who was a resident of Mission Arch Center, 3200 Mission Arch Drive.

There were a total of 29 deaths related to the virus reported in the state Thursday. Lea County reported five deaths; Bernalillo and Doña Ana counties each reported four deaths; Luna County reported three deaths; Otero and San Juan counties each reported two; and Colfax, Eddy, McKinley, Roosevelt, Santa Fe and Valencia counties and the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility in Doña Ana County all reported one death.

The state has had a total of 2,836 deaths related to the virus including 113 in Chaves County.

Thirty counties and one correctional institution reported a total of 1,434 new cases of COVID-19, giving the state a total of 160,543 cases.

Bernalillo County reported the most cases with 344. Doña Ana County reported 166 and San Juan County reported 155.

Chaves County has now had a total of 7,677 cases.

As of Thursday, 691 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in New Mexico.
