Sampson Leroy Davis, age 75, of Roswell, passed away on November 3, 2020. He was born April 11, 1945 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Roswell, NM, to Elder John Henry Davis Sr. and Minnie Lee Bowers Davis.

Sampson attended Roswell Schools and graduated from Roswell High School. He furthered his education at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. Sampson worked various jobs from working for his dad mowing lawns to picking cotton.

Sampson loved Jeopardy with original host Arthur Fleming. He also loved classical music especially Tchaikovsky. Sampson could and went for the high notes on every song he sang. He enjoyed body building and physique was so pronounced that he’d be stopped on the streets and asked how he got and stayed in such great shape.

Sampson is preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie Lee Davis; brothers Samuel W, John M. Davis Jr, Soloman D., and Paul B Davis; sisters Vermelia Black, Corina Wagner, and Alberta Applahite; son David Davis; nephew Larry Wayne Helton and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Sampson leaves behind his memories his daughter, Melissa Vigil and granddaughter; sisters, Joyce Louise Terrell, Doris Walker, Rosa Lee Stevenson, and Ann Margaret Helton; brother William (Bill) Leon Davis and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
