Virtual RMAC and Puzzle Room

Join the Roswell Museum and Art Center on its Facebook page in Museum Moments Facebook videos and Space is Awesome on Fridays. There is no specific posting time, so check often. The RMAC Puzzle Room is once again open. Puzzle Room reservations are available during museum visiting hours, Tuesdays through Fridays, from 1 to 5 p.m. To make a reservation, call 575-624-6744.

Free Loteria — Mexican Bingo Art Contest

The deadline for Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art’s Loteria — Mexican Bingo Art Contest has been extended. The contest invites the public to design a Loteria card using original artwork of either a traditional Loteria object or to create a new one. All entries will be exhibited at the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art, 409 E. College Blvd., until March 20; 54 entries will be chosen to make a Loteria card deck. The free event is part of the Big Read Roswell event and is open for all ages. For more information, email nancy@roswellamoca.org or call 575-623-5600.

Indigenous American Art, 1960-2000

Featuring the work of well-known Indigenous artists like Fritz Scholder (Luiseño), R.C. Gorman (Navajo), Pablita Velarde (Santa Clara Pueblo), and Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (Salish), this exhibit opens at the Roswell Museum and Art Center, 1011 N. Richardson Ave. It demonstrates a wide variety of traditional and contemporary subject matter depicted through an equally wide variety of materials from sand painting to bronze sculpture. This exhibition will serve as an introduction to the subject with a follow-up show traveling from the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian in the second half of 2021. Also open as of now in the entrance is the exhibit Animals!, which remains open until May 30, featuring various artists’ perspectives on the animal kingdom. Big Read kickoff

The Roswell Big Read event features a proclamation by the mayor, welcoming speeches by the Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell president and vice-president and the Ballet Folklorico dancers, to name a few. Most events will be virtual. Details and times about the kickoff event and following community activities, as well as locations to pick up the Roswell Big Read books, “Into the Beautiful North,” by award-winning author Luis Alberto Urrea, will be listed soon at the new webpage, bigreadroswell.com. Triple the Love — to go

Celebrate Valentine’s Day creatively at home with free art activities to be picked up at three locations: Create your own to-go card making kit at Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art, 409 E. College Blvd. Pick up a scratch art pack at Bone Springs Art Space, 212 E. Walnut St. The Miniatures & Curious Collections Museum, 320 N. Richardson Ave., will have take-out boxes filled will supplies to make a mini book — as part of the Big Read Roswell 2021 (bigreadroswell.com) and origami bird folding. RAiR exhibit: Justin Richel

Bowl for Kids’ Sake

The annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake, which benefits the nonprofit organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern New Mexico, has been postponed until restrictions due to the COVID-19 crisis are lifted. For more information, visit bbbssenm.org or its Facebook page.
