County reports 31 new COVID-19 cases, no deaths

The week’s trend of lower numbers of new COVID-19 cases continues, with the state reporting 884 new cases including 31 in Chaves County, according to Wednesday’s daily update from the New Mexico Department of Health.

No deaths related to the virus were reported in Chaves County, but statewide there were 34 deaths.

Twenty-eight counties and one correctional center reported new cases Wednesday, led by Bernalillo County with 213 and Doña Ana County with 144.

The total number of cases in the state since March is now 165,835 with 7,913 of those in Chaves County.

Of the deceased, seven were from McKinley County, six from San Juan County and five from Bernalillo County. Cibola County reported four. Doña Ana, Sandoval and Santa Fe counties each reported three deaths, and Eddy, Grant and Rio Arriba counties each reported one.

The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in the state is now 3,009. In Chaves County, the total is 120.

As of Wednesday, 89,756 cases in the state are considered recovered and 605 people are hospitalized for COVID-19.

The state has administered 152,984 doses of COVID-19 vaccines including 44,607 in the last week, according to the DOH vaccine dashboard. The state has received 199,275 doses. More than 471,000 people have registered for the vaccine.

Chaves County’s two-week average of new daily cases per 100,000 people was 85.6 between Dec. 29 and Jan. 13, and its test positivity rate was 17.51%, placing it in the very high-risk Red Level in the state’s Red to Green COVID-19 risk assessment system.
