County reports 59 new COVID-19 cases

The state of New Mexico reported just under 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 including 59 in Chaves County in Thursday’s update from the New Mexico Department of Health.

No local deaths related to COVID-19 were among the 35 reported by the state.

Twenty-nine counties and two correctional institutions reported 997 new cases of COVID-19, led by Bernalillo County with 232. Doña Ana County had 125 new cases.

The total number of cases in the state since March is now 166,823 and in Chaves County is 7,972.

Of the 35 deaths, six were from San Juan County; five each were from Bernalillo and Santa Fe counties; four each were from Doña Ana and Sandoval counties; three from McKinley County; two each from Cibola and Sierra counties; and one each from Curry, Lea, Otero and Valencia counties.

The total number of deaths in the state related to COVID-19 is 3,044 and 120 in Chaves County.

The state has administered 162,995 doses of COVID-19 vaccines and has now received 203,825 doses, according to the DOH vaccine dashboard. More than 480,000 people are registered to receive the vaccine.

Chaves County’s two-week average of new daily cases per 100,000 people was 85.6 between Dec. 29 and Jan. 13, and its test positivity rate was 17.51%, placing it in the very high-risk Red Level in the state’s Red to Green COVID-19 risk assessment system.
