Betty Lou Whisenhunt was born April 24, 1933 in Bowie, Tx in Montague County to George Oliver Lyon and Jewel Gladys Lyon. She passed away in El Paso, Tx on January 13, 2021. She graduated from Levelland High School in Levelland, Tx.

Betty met the love of her life, Ray Whisenhunt, and they married July 5, 1950. This was the beginning of a 65 year journey together. They moved to Lamesa, TX in 1950, where later their son Danny was born. The family moved to Seminole, TX where they opened their first business, an auto parts store. Betty was employed by Pioneer National Gas company as a secretary but also helped with inventory and bookkeeping at the parts store.

Ray and Betty sold their business in 1970 and moved to Ruidoso, NM to purchase the hardware store, adding auto parts and creating Ruidoso Homes and Auto Company. Next they opened a NAPA auto arts store. Betty was an integral partner in all of their business endeavors. Years later they sold their business to travel in their motor home throughout the United States and Canada.

They also enjoyed taking cruises with friends to other destinations. They loved their travel adventures and the wonderful people they met along the way. After their travels they returned back to Ruidoso, NM and went back to work opening a Big A auto parts store. Years later they sold their business and began to travel again.

In 1986 they were overnight guests at the Trailer Village RV Park in Roswell NM but never left because they bought the RV Park. Their final retirement was in 2003 when they sold the RV Park and made Roswell their home to spend the sunset years of their lives.
