Chaves County has received a Fiscal Year 2019 Audit and Accountability Award from State Auditor Brian Colón.

It is the fourth time the county has been honored with this recognition. Other past awards from the State Auditor’s Office include a certificate of excellence award for fiscal year 2018 and the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for five consecutive years for excellence in financial programming.

In addition, Chaves County was recognized in November for outstanding financial practices with a Local Government Division Director’s Award from the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration.

The most recent award was presented Thursday at the New Mexico Counties Virtual Legislative Conference. It recognizes outstanding work on audits, the timely submission of audits and sustained excellence with the highest audit opinions.

Four other counties also received Audit and Accountability Awards. Bernalillo County received the award in the “large county” category. Roosevelt and Taos counties joined Chaves County in the “mid-size” category. Guadalupe County was honored in the “small county” category.
