Frances Joan Farley, of Roswell, New Mexico, passed away on January 18th, 2021 in Keller, Texas. Fran will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandma to all that knew and loved her. She was born on October 5th, 1933 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Albert and Bertha Ritchel.

Fran grew up in Fairfield, CT, graduating from Rodger Ludlow High School in 1951. After high school she attended college at Central Connecticut State Teachers College where she received a degree in primary education.

Fran married Ramon (Ray) Farley of Glidden, Iowa in 1956 in Fairfield, Connecticut after meeting in the summer of 1955 while working at Word of Life Summer Camp in Schroon Lake, New York – a farm boy and an eastern city girl. They were happily married for 61 years.

Fran was an elementary school teacher for forty years, starting in Connecticut, to Marion, Indiana, and then to Roswell. During her time in Indiana she received a Master’s Degree in Education from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. In Roswell she taught 2nd grade at Edgewood and Parkview Elementary schools, retiring in 1996.

She was a devout Christian who loved God and was an active member in all of her local churches, serving on numerous boards and in elected roles. She also was extraordinarily active as a Gideon’s International Ladies Auxiliary in the Roswell Camp of The Gideon’s International organization; supporting the placing and distributing of thousands of bibles in Southern New Mexico. After retirement from teaching her joy along with Ray more than anything else was spending time with their four grandsons every summer at Family Camp at Bonita Park and on summer road trips in the RV as they grew up.

She and Ray also enjoyed travelling the nation to visit family and friends and seeing the world on cruise ships, and on Church of the Nazarene work and witness trips.

Fran is survived by her three children: Randal (Tania) Farley of San Diego, CA, Rhonda Farley of Watauga, TX, and Robyn Farley McCleery of Little Elm, TX. Her four grandsons: Kevin Farley of Hanford, CA, Brian (Hailey) Farley of San Rafael, CA, Mitchell McCleery of Grapevine, TX, and Lucas McCleery of West Point, NY, and great-granddaughter Harper Jean Farley of San Rafael, CA. Her brothers: William (Rosie) Ritchel of Wauchula, FL and Bruce Ritchel of Shelton, CT, and sister Linda (David) Coles of Shelton, CT.

She was preceded in death by Ramon in 2017.

A memorial service will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene (501 N Sycamore Ave.) in Roswell, New Mexico, at 10:30 AM on the 20th of March 2021. Friends are encouraged to bring pictures of Fran and Ray to add to a display of remembrance. Inurnment will follow as plans are finalized.
