Two COVID-19 deaths reported in Chaves County

Two local deaths were reported Tuesday among the 14 statewide related to COVID-19, but new case counts continued to be low, according to the daily update from the New Mexico Department of Health.

The deceased are a woman and a man both in their 60s. Both were hospitalized and had underlying health conditions, according to the update.

Of the other deaths, four were from Bernalillo County and three from San Juan County. Doña Ana, Eddy, Roosevelt, Sandoval and Torrance counties each reported one death.

The total number of deaths in New Mexico is now 3,171 and 125 in Chaves County.

In new cases of COVID-19, 27 counties reported a total of 602 cases, giving the state a total of 170,296 since March. Chaves County reported 29 new cases for a total of 8,088.

As of Tuesday, 561 people were hospitalized in the state for COVID-19. That’s the lowest number since mid-November, when the state revised its hospitalization reporting to receive data directly from hospitals.

Also as of Tuesday, the state has designated 96,659 cases of COVID-19 as recovered, including 4,831 in Chaves County.
