Two COVID-19 deaths reported Thursday in Chaves County

Chaves County had two deaths related to COVID-19 among the 28 reported Thursday by the New Mexico Department of Health.

The deceased were a man in his 50s and a woman in her 70s. The man had been hospitalized and both had underlying health conditions, according to the health department’s daily COVID-19 update.

Of the other deaths, six were in San Juan County and five were in Bernalillo County. Eddy, McKinley and Santa Fe counties each had three. Lea and Torrance counties had two. Cibola and Doña Ana each had one.

The total number of deaths in the state is now 3,226. In Chaves County the total is 127.

Twenty-six counties and three correctional institutions reported 678 new cases of COVID-19. Chaves County reported 24. The state’s total number of cases is now 171,719 including 8,159 in Chaves County.

As of Thursday, 556 people are hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state.

The health department has designated 99,524 cases as recovered including 4,978 in Chaves County.

The county’s average number of new cases between Jan. 12 and Jan. 25 was 55.9 and the test positivity rate was 12.59%, placing it at the very high-risk Red Level in the state’s COVID-19 risk assessment system.
