Local COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped for the final full reporting week of January to about 178, 132 in adult beds and approximately 46 for adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds.

The exact number of ICU beds used is not known, because Lovelace Regional Hospital reported -999,999 — a figure denoting four or fewer that is used in the report to safeguard against privacy violations.

The data is from the U.S. Health and Human Services Department’s weekly update of COVID-19 hospitalizations at many U.S. hospital facilities. The current report was released Monday and is for the seven-day period of Jan. 22 to Jan. 28.

It shows that Eastern New Mexico Medical Center had 110 adult beds used by confirmed COVID-19 patients over that seven days, while Lovelace had 22.

The number of adults in ICU beds for Eastern was 46, while it was four or fewer at Lovelace.

The number of pediatric beds used for confirmed COVID-19 cases over seven days was zero at Eastern and again denoted as -999,999, or four or fewer, at Lovelace.

The percent of adult ICU beds used for COVID-19 was about 38.7% of the 119 adult ICU beds available from Jan. 22 to Jan. 28. The percent of COVID-19 usage of the 763 total adult beds available was about 17.3%.

When including both COVID-19 and non-COVID patients, the two hospitals had 71.4% of ICU beds in use for the Jan. 22-28 time frame and 63.5% of all in-patient beds used.

For the prior week, Jan. 15 to Jan. 21, Eastern had 123 adult in-patient beds used for COVID-19 cases, while Lovelace had 12, for a total of 135 at both hospitals. For that seven-day period, 53 adult ICU beds were used for COVID-19 cases, 46 at ENMMC and seven at Lovelace.

From Jan. 8 to Jan. 14, Roswell’s two main hospitals had a total of 37 ICU beds used by confirmed COVID-19 cases (32 at ENMMC and five at Lovelace) and a total of 123 adult in-patient COVID-19 beds used (109 at Eastern and 14 at Lovelace).
