County reports 18 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death Thursday

Eighteen new cases of COVID-19 and one death related to the virus were reported in Chaves County in Thursday’s daily update from the New Mexico Department of Health.

Seventeen deaths were reported in the state. A 60-year-old Chaves County woman was among them. She had been hospitalized, according to the health department.

Bernalillo and San Juan counties each reported three deaths. Doña Ana and Sandoval each reported two. Grant, Guadalupe, Lea, Luna, McKinley and Santa Fe each had one death.

The total number of deaths in the state is now 3,355, including 134 in Chaves County.

A total of 565 new cases were reported in 29 counties and three correctional institutions. Bernalillo County had 159, followed by Doña Ana County at 94. Santa Fe County had the next highest number of cases at 30.

The state’s total number of cases of COVID-19 since March 2020 is 176,211, including 8,297 in Chaves County.

As of Thursday, 445 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in New Mexico.

The state has declared 108,144 cases as recovered, including 5,580 in Chaves County.

In Chaves County, 4,525 people — 7% of the population — have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, according to the NMDOH vaccine dashboard.

Statewide, 306,389 doses of the vaccine have been administered — 233,998 of those are primary doses and 72,391 are second doses.

The state has received 324,575 doses. Almost 579,000 people are registered to receive a vaccine.
