Correctional Center reports new case of COVID-19

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 589 new cases of COVID-19 in its daily update Friday, including 24 in Chaves County and one at the Roswell Correctional Center.

No local deaths related to COVID-19 were reported among the 23 in the state.

The update brings the statewide total of COVID-19 cases since March 2020 to 176,793. Chaves County has had 8,320 — adjusted for one case discovered to be a duplicate — and the Roswell Correctional Center has had 229.

Twenty-four other counties and the Lea County Correctional Facility also reported new cases Friday, led by Bernalillo County with 174 and Doña Ana County with 82.

Bernalillo County reported six deaths. Lea, McKinley, Rio Arriba and San Juan counties each had two. Colfax, Eddy, Los Alamos, Sandoval, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Torrance and Valencia counties each reported one death, as did the Lea County Correctional Facility.

The total number of deaths statewide is 3,378 and 134 in Chaves County.

As of Friday, 396 people are hospitalized for COVID-19 in New Mexico.

According to the NMDOH vaccination dashboard, 4,900 people in Chaves County have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Statewide, 319,832 doses have been administered, with primary doses at 242,141 and second doses at 77,691.

The state has received 324,575 doses of vaccine. More than 583,000 people are registered to receive the vaccine.
