3 new virus cases, 1 death recorded locally Monday

Three new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Chaves County in Monday’s daily update from the New Mexico Department of Health. One local death related to the coronavirus was also reported Monday.

The deceased was a man in his 50s with underlying health conditions, according to the update.

Seven new cases of the virus — and no deaths — were reported in Chaves County in Sunday’s update.

Statewide, 349 new cases were reported on Sunday, and 315 on Monday. Thirteen deaths were reported in the state Monday. New Mexico also recorded 13 COVID-19 deaths on Sunday.

The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 statewide is now 3,412, including 135 in Chaves County.

The state’s total number of cases since March is 177,867 with 8,346 in Chaves County.

Over Sunday and Monday, San Juan County recorded the highest number of new deaths related to the virus, with eight. Bernalillo County recorded the most new cases of the virus over that span with 218.

As of Monday, 396 people were hospitalized in New Mexico due to COVID-19. The state has designated 112,051 cases as recovered, including 5,778 in Chaves County.

According to the state’s vaccine dashboard on Monday afternoon, the state has given a cumulative total of 342,088 primary and booster doses. Of the total, 252,880 were primary doses with 89,208 booster shots. The state had received 364,875 doses. Almost 595,000 people have registered online to receive the vaccine.

According to information posted to the dashboard Monday afternoon, 4,900 people in Chaves County are either fully or partially vaccinated.
