Three local COVID-19 deaths reported Tuesday

Three Chaves County men were among the 19 deaths related to COVID-19 reported Tuesday by the New Mexico Department of Health.

The deceased were a man in his 60s and two men in their 70s, both of whom had been hospitalized and had underlying health conditions.

In new cases, the state reported 413 new cases with seven in Chaves County.

Twenty-three counties and one correctional facility reported new cases Tuesday. Bernalillo County was the only one to report more than 100 cases, at 157. Doña Ana County reported 56, Sandoval County 40, Santa Fe County 28 and San Juan County 23.

The state’s total number of cases is 178,280. Chaves County’s total is 8,353.

Among the other deaths reported Tuesday, Roosevelt County had five; Bernalillo County had three; Doña Ana and Luna counties each had two; and McKinley, San Juan, Socorro and Taos counties each had one.

The total number of deaths in the state is 3,430 including 138 in Chaves County.

As of Tuesday, 369 people were hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.

The state has designated 113,448 cases as recovered including 5,845 in Chaves County.

From Jan. 12 to Jan. 25, Chaves County averaged 55.9 new cases of COVID-19 a day per 100,000 people and a test positivity rate of 12.59%, placing it in the Red Zone of the state’s risk assessment system. That data is scheduled to be updated Wednesday.
