Jeffrey Contreras, 25, of Roswell, was found Monday at 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a local motel on North Main Street and detained by Roswell police officers and Chaves County’s Sheriff’s Office personnel.

“Jeffrey was seen sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle in the parking lot of a local motel when he was surrounded by law enforcement. Jeffrey’s passenger window was shattered and he was immediately extracted through that window and placed into custody without incident,” Sheriff Mike Herrington wrote in a message posted on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

Contreras was wanted as a suspect in connection with the death of Johnny Pacheco Jr., 26, of Roswell. Pacheco’s body was discovered Jan. 22 at 2 a.m. in the area of Lupton and Y.O. Roads. Pacheco was reported missing Jan. 20 by his family.

The U.S. Marshals last week offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to Contreras’ capture.
