No local deaths, 6 new COVID-19 cases reported Tuesday

Six new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Chaves County in Tuesday’s update from the New Mexico Department of Health. No local deaths were among the 12 related to the virus reported by the state.

Twenty-six counties and one correctional institution reported a total of 308 cases in the state Tuesday.

Bernalillo and Doña Ana counties led the number of reports, but both reported less than 100 new cases. Bernalillo had 74 while Doña Ana had 52. Sixteen of the counties had fewer than 10 new cases.

Of the 12 deaths, almost half — five — were in Bernalillo County. Lea and San Juan counties each reported two. Reporting one death each were Doña Ana, Santa Fe and Valencia counties.

New Mexico has now had 181,060 cases of COVID-19 and 3,550 related deaths.

Chaves County has had 8,521 cases and 146 related deaths. The Roswell Correctional Center has had 229 cases.

The Department of Health has designated 123,507 cases, or about 68%, as recovered. In Chaves County, 6,195 cases, or 72%, are designated as recovered.

As of Tuesday, 290 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state.

In the state’s latest data in its two-week COVID-19 risk assessment system, from Jan. 26 to Feb. 8, Chaves County had an average of 28.6 new cases a day and a test positivity rate of 7.26%, placing it in the very high risk Red Level.
