Man arrested on meth trafficking charge

Chaves County Metro Narcotics Task Force agents and Roswell police officers arrested a man accused of methamphetamine trafficking.

Court records state Tony Gonzales, 43, of Roswell was arrested after police found methamphetamine, marijuana and a handgun inside his 900 block of North Plains Park Drive residence while executing a search warrant Thursday.

Gonzales is charged with one count each of trafficking controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute, narcotic or meth; receipt, transportation or possession of a firearm or destructive device by a felon; and possession of controlled substances, marijuana.

Task force agents conducted the operation Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Upon breaching the door on the north side of the house, they immediately made contact with Gonzales and a male juvenile.

Inside the residence, court records state, law enforcement found 93.9 grams of methamphetamine, 146.8 grams of marijuana, $3,511 in cash, a Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun inside a locked tool box, a radio police scanner, and packing materials commonly used to weigh narcotics.

Judge E.J. Fouratt on Friday set bail for Gonzales at $20,000 cash or surety bond, according to court filings.
