With a heavy heart and great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, at the age of 93. Fernanda C. Horton went to be with our Lord on February 18, 2021, surrounded by her family at the family home.

Fernanda was born to George Chavez and Rosa Nunez in Balmorhea, Texas, on April 23, 1927. She married the love of her life, Felipe L. Horton, on January 06, 1942. Fernanda worked as a Nutritionist/Cook for twenty years for different companies that include Roswell Job Crops, Thiokol, Joy Center, and St. Mary’s Hospital. She received several awards for her excellent job performance.

A devoted Catholic, Fernanda taught her children and grandchildren her faith. She loved spending time with her family teaching them how to cook, sew, and crochet. Fernanda was a creative person who loved trying out different patterns of all kinds. She enjoyed traveling with her children, visiting with family, and shopping. Her most memorable moments were the times she spent with her family. Fernanda will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Those left to carry on Fernanda’s heritage are children: Adan Horton, Phillip Navarette (Carmen), Cruz H. Dillard, Rose Hernandez, Juanita Rubio (Vicente), Fernanda Garcia (Mark), Sally Chavez; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Fernanda was preceded in death by children: Rosito Horton, Marylou Horton, Frances Horton, Kathyrn Horton, Augustine Horton, and Nancy Garcia; grandsons: Angel (Anaya) Horton and Samuel David Garcia, Buddy Garcia Jr, Filipe Garcia, and Alexis (Anaya) Horton; granddaughter, Crystal Vigil; great-grandchildren: Jonathan Page and Jeremiah Jaramillo; and both parents, George Chavez, and Rosa Nunez; and daughter-in-law, Rose Horton; and son-in-law, Leo Dillard.

PALLBEARERS: Those honored to serve as Pallbearers are Gabriel (Anaya) Horton, Clayton Means, Edward Means, Pete Ysasi, Phillip Navarette Jr, Roy Page, Roderick Sedillo JR., Noah Salazar.

HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Those blessed to serve as Honorary Pallbearers are all her grandchildren.

SERVICES: A Rosary for Fernanda will be recited at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Monday, February 22, 2021, at 6:00 PM. A Mass will be held at the Ave Maria Center, 401 East Bland St., Roswell, New Mexico, on February 23, 2021, at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.

A Family gathering will follow at the Ponderosa Center, 1600 E Poe St Roswell, NM.

The family has been going through a tough time with the loss of their loved one and would like to apologize to anyone who was left out of the obituary.

Fernanda’s tribute was written in her honor by her family.
