On October 31, 1949, Maria was born to Felipe Acosta and Mariana Lara Acosta in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She was the beloved wife of Jacinto Gonzalez, whom she married on May 12, 2001. Prior to her second marriage, Maria had shared six children with her first husband, Ramon Ortega. Maria worked in the home health industry, and she loved and took excellent care of her elderly patients.

Maria was of the Catholic faith and had a loving and compassionate heart, where she specialized in compassionate service. These gifts of compassion are more than learned behaviors. They were characteristics of her nature; her heart was for service, and her life was dedicated to being the best wife, mother, and grandmother for her family and great-grandmother.

Her hobbies and favorite past times include bingo, loteria, and camping. Most of all, Maria most definitely loved spending time with all of her family. She was a very strong independent woman who loved and helped all her family in any way that she could.
