No new virus cases, 1 death recorded locally Monday

No new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Chaves County in Monday’s daily update from the New Mexico Department of Health. One local death related to the coronavirus was reported Monday.

The deceased was a man in his 60s who had been hospitalized and had underlying health conditions. He was a resident of the Casa Maria Health Care Center in Roswell, according to the update.

Five new cases of the virus — and one death — were reported in Chaves County in Sunday’s update. The deceased was a woman in her 60s with underlying health conditions.

Statewide, 245 new cases were reported on Sunday, and 166 on Monday. Thirteen deaths were reported in the state Monday. New Mexico recorded 16 COVID-19 deaths on Sunday.

Bernalillo County led the state in new cases Sunday and Monday, reporting 91 and 55, respectively.

Bernalillo and San Juan counties each recorded three deaths Sunday, the highest total reported by any county in the state; and on Monday, Doña Ana County reported three deaths, the most in New Mexico on that day.

The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 statewide is now 3,729 including 151 in Chaves County. The state’s total number of cases to date is 185,297 with 8,624 in Chaves County.

As of Monday, 186 people were hospitalized in New Mexico due to COVID-19. The state has designated 147,446 cases as recovered, including 7,464 in Chaves County.
