Jerry John Barrera Jr., 36, of Roswell was located Tuesday afternoon at a residence in the 700 block of East Third Street and served with an arrest warrant on charges of shooting at or from a motor vehicle; aggravated battery; and felon in possession of a firearm, according to a press release issued late Wednesday by the Roswell Police Department.

Detectives with the RPD went to the residence based on information that Barrera might be there. When police encountered him, he was served with the arrest warrant and taken into custody without incident.

Barrera allegedly shot a 20-year-old man in the back Feb. 7 at 9:40 a.m. at the intersection of South Richardson Avenue and West Deming Street.

The press release states that Barrera is suspected of firing the shot from a vehicle as the victim was walking along South Richardson Avenue.

The wounded man was hospitalized for nearly a month as a result of his injury and this week was released from the hospital, according to the press release.

Police believe the shooting might have stemmed from a dispute the two men had over a PlayStation video game system, though the release states specific details about the reported conflict remain unclear.

Court records indicate that a motion for pre-trial detention in the case has been filed by the District Attorney’s Office for the 5th Judicial District. A hearing on the motion is scheduled for March 8 at 3 p.m.
