Investigation into alleged misconduct underway

Eight firefighters with the Roswell Fire Department have been placed on administrative leave with pay following accusations of misconduct.

The eight individuals were placed on administrative leave Feb. 25 while an investigation into the matter is underway, Todd Wildermuth, public information officer for the Roswell Fire Department, said Wednesday.

Wildermuth declined to provide details about the nature of the alleged misconduct, other than to say the incident occurred during the second week of February and the city learned of the allegations Feb. 24.

“The firefighters were placed on leave the next day, Feb. 25, and the investigation was initiated,” Wildermuth said. He added that no further specifics about the incident will be released while the investigation is ongoing.

The department consists of a total of 76 firefighters and four administrative personnel.

Wildermuth stated that while the investigation is underway, the RFD will compensate for the eight individuals on leave by using overtime for the remainder of the department.

“All stations are fully equipped with personnel and any emergency response will not be negatively impacted,” he said.
