One death, 3 COVID-19 cases Thursday in Chaves County

One death related to COVID-19 and three new cases in Chaves County were announced in the New Mexico Department of Health’s daily case update Thursday.

The deceased was a woman in her 50s who had underlying health conditions, according to the press release. Her death brings the county’s total to 157.

Five other deaths were reported in the state Thursday. Two were from Bernalillo County. Luna, Sandoval and San Juan counties each reported one.

The total number of deaths in the state related to COVID-19 is 3,846.

A total of 236 cases were reported in 22 counties and two correctional facilities. The total number of cases in the state is now 187,720, with 161,650 declared recovered.

In Chaves County, the total is 8,675 cases, with 7,951 declared recovered.

As of Thursday, 130 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state.

In Chaves County, 8,399 people, or 16.9% of the population age 16 and older, have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, with 3,928, or 7.9%, fully vaccinated, according to the NMDOH vaccine dashboard.

Statewide, 428,799 New Mexicans have received at least one dose and 244,374 are fully vaccinated.

Chaves County is in the Yellow Level of the state’s Red to Green COVID-19 risk assessment system with an average of 9.1 new cases per day per 100,000 people and a test positivity rate of 2.37% from Feb. 23 to March 8.
