Dolores Brown Stevens passed from this life suddenly and peacefully March 11, 2021 at her home in Stillwater, OK. Dolores was born May 4, 1934 in St Louis, MO, the second of nine children born to Harry Dawson Brown and Emma Wehmueller Brown. She grew up in challenging circumstances during the Depression and WW II era and these experiences helped form her into a resilient, courageous, patriotic woman and a devoted St Louis Cardinal fan during her entire lifetime.

Dolores graduated from Central High School in St Louis and attended Harris Teachers College where she met and married William E Bixler. They started a family and moved first to Wyoming and then in 1968 to Roswell, NM where they raised their four children. After the marriage ended, she began a career at Pioneer Savings in Roswell. Largely self-educated, Dolores worked her way up to become the head of the mortgage lending division, and retired a senior vice-president of Pioneer Savings. While living in Roswell, Dolores was active in several organizations, including Altrusa, Friends of the Library and the Runners’ Club.

Dolores married Norman “Norm” L Stevens Jr in December of 1991. They were married until his death in July of 2016. They built two homes in the Hondo Valley in SE New Mexico and retired to enjoy what Dolores referred to as the “happiest years of my life”. She and Norm shared their love of living on a ranch, animals and especially Alsatian dogs, the great outdoors, hiking and the rich culture of that region. They also loved hosting events for family and friends in their lovely homes. In Hondo, Dolores also enjoyed gardening and continued to be an avid and highly competitive bridge player, something she enjoyed all her life. In Hondo, she was a member of and served as president of the Lincoln County Republican Women.

Dolores moved to Golden Oaks Village in Stillwater, OK in 2018. She treasured her new friends there, whether residents or staff and appreciated the care and love she was shown while living there.

Dolores’ great pride and love were her family and she was active and interested in all the activities of both hers and Norm’s family and adored all her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
