6 local cases of COVID reported, updates pause for Easter weekend

The health department said Friday it will not issue daily case updates Saturday or Sunday in recognition of Easter weekend. Updates to the state’s vaccine website will be paused as well. Updates will resume Monday.

On Friday, the New Mexico Department of Health reported 218 new cases of COVID-19 and seven deaths related to the virus in its daily case update. None of the deaths were from Chaves County.

In the Friday update, 20 counties reported new cases of COVID-19. Chaves County reported six.

The total number of cases in the state is now 192,152 including 8,750 in Chaves County.

Of the seven deaths reported, three of the deceased were from Bernalillo County, two from McKinley County, and one each from Eddy and Santa Fe counties.

As of Friday, 94 people are hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.

The total number of deaths in the state is now 3,949.

The state health department and federal agencies have administered 1,274,026 doses of vaccine, with 47% of New Mexicans age 16 or older having at least one dose. Thirty percent are fully vaccinated.

In Chaves County, 30% of the population 16 or older has received at least one dose and 19% are fully vaccinated. About 39% of the population has registered for the vaccine.

Chaves County is in the Green Level of the state’s COVID-19 risk assessment system. From March 3 to March 22, the county averaged four new cases per day per 100,000 people and had a test positivity rate of 1.33%.
