No COVID-19 cases, 1 death Tuesday in Chaves County

In the New Mexico Department of Health’s daily update Tuesday, Chaves County had no new cases of COVID-19 but did have one death related to the virus.

The woman in her 80s, who was a resident of Mission Arch Center, 3200 Mission Arch Drive, was one of nine deaths in the state Tuesday and the 167th linked to COVID-19 in Chaves County.

Doña Ana and Eddy counties each reported two deaths, and Bernalillo, Curry, McKinley and Sandoval counties each reported one.

Also in its daily update, state health officials reported 187 new COVID-19 cases in 17 counties and one correctional center. Bernalillo had 97 cases. The county with the next highest number of cases was Sandoval, with 21. Doña Ana and San Juan each had 13. The remaining counties all had eight or less.

The total number of cases in the state is 194,164. Chaves County’s total has been adjusted for three cases identified as duplicates. It is now 8,782. Ninety percent of the state’s cases and 95% of the county’s cases are considered recovered.

As of Tuesday, 103 people were hospitalized in the state for COVID-19.

More than 1.4 million doses of vaccine have been administered in New Mexico, and 53% of the population age 16 or older has received at least one dose. Nearly 35% are fully vaccinated. In Chaves County, 37% of those age 16 or older have at least one dose and 23% are fully vaccinated.
