The City of Roswell is putting the spotlight on lodgers’ tax in the second installment of its “Money Matters” video series, according to a press release issued by the city.

The city is producing the special video series to inform citizens about different types of funds through which city finances are managed. The “Money Matters” series began in March with a video giving an overview of Enterprise Funds and the city departments that operate with those types of funds. That video, the lodgers’ tax video and future videos in the series can be found on the city’s website — at roswell-nm.gov/1537/Money-Matters — and social media.

Lodgers’ tax is a 5-percent tax paid by customers of hotels, motels and other lodging establishments. State law allows municipalities to collect this tax through lodging businesses.

The revenue from the tax is used on tourism-related promotion of the city and for expenses related to tourism events and certain facilities. The second “Money Matters” video explains the details of how the city handles and uses lodgers’ tax.
