The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office arrested several people Saturday in Midway during an event where people under the age of 21 were allegedly found to be in possession of alcoholic beverages.

In a post on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Sheriff Mike Herrington stated the arrests were made while deputies were serving a search warrant in the area of Eagles Nest and Darby roads, at an event where it was suspected that alcoholic beverages were being served to individuals under age 21. People at the event who were under 18 years of age were arrested on charges of minor in possession of alcohol, while event attendees older than 18 but younger than 21 were charged with possession of alcohol. In all, approximately 250 people were at the gathering.

Herrington said one intoxicated person at the event was arrested on a charge of negligent use of a firearm, while three arrest warrants were issued, including one for the security guard at the event.

Owners of the property as well as the promoter of the event were identified and are currently under investigation for alcohol-related offenses, he said.

Twenty-five vehicles were left at the scene, because the vehicle owners were believed to be too intoxicated to drive and had other drivers take them home, Herrington said.
