Eight new COVID-19 cases Friday in Chaves County

The New Mexico Department of Health announced 245 new cases of COVID-19 and one death related to the virus in its Friday update.

Chaves County reported eight new cases. Bernalillo County had the most with 59, followed by Doña Ana County at 46 and San Juan County at 36. Sandoval County had 18, and Eddy and Santa Fe counties each had 12. Fifteen counties and the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Valencia County all had eight or fewer cases.

The total number of cases in New Mexico is 196,221. Chaves County’s total, adjusted Friday for five cases identified as duplicates, is 8,856.

The death was a man in his 70s from Bernalillo County. He had underlying health conditions.

The state’s total number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 4,024 including 167 in Chaves County.

As of Friday, 58% of New Mexicans age 16 or older have had at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 41% are fully vaccinated.

In Chaves County, 36% have received at least one dose of vaccine and 28% are fully vaccinated.
