Two new cases of COVID-19 in county Tuesday

The New Mexico Department of Health announced 181 new cases of COVID-19 in 23 counties and 12 deaths in its daily case update Tuesday.

Two of the new cases were in Chaves County. Bernalillo County had 78 and San Juan County had 31. The remaining counties each had eight or fewer cases.

The total number of cases in the state is 196,997. Chaves County’s total is 8,885, adjusted by three cases determined to be duplicates, according to Tuesday’s update. A duplicate case was also determined to be among those reported at the Roswell Correctional Center. The center’s total is now 229.

Five of Tuesday’s reported deaths were from Doña Ana County and three were from Lea County. Curry, Luna, Roosevelt and San Juan counties each had one death.

The total number of deaths in the state is now 4,039 including 168 in Chaves County.

As of Tuesday, 130 people were hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.

According to the state’s COVID-19 vaccine dashboard Tuesday, 57% of the state’s population age 16 and older have received at least one dose of vaccine while 41% are fully vaccinated.

In Chaves County, 37% of those age 16 or older have received at least one dose and 29% are fully vaccinated.

Chaves County is in the Yellow Level of the state’s COVID-19 risk assessment system. From March 6 to 19, the county had an average of 10.5 new cases per day per 100,000 people and a test positivity rate of 3.66%.
