Coy Sam Coats, 70, of Tucumcari, New Mexico passed away on April 22, 2021 at Northwest Healthcare System in Amarillo, Texas after a brief illness. Funeral services Will be held at the First Baptist Church, 321 Center Street, Tucumcari, NM at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Dunn’s Funeral Home of Tucumcari, NM.

Coy was born on August 20, 1950 to Sam and Imogene Coats in Roswell, NM. Coy grew up in the small town of Dexter, NM and attended Dexter Schools for 11 years. He joined the Army on September 16, 1969 and was medically discharged on October 21, 1970.

Coy married Laurence Gabbard on Dec 26th 1990. They were married for 30 years.

Coy was preceded in death by his father and mother, Sam and Imogene Coats.

He is survived by his wife Laurence Coats and his children Amanda Connolly, Kimberley Coats, Cliff Coats and stepdaughter Rachel Mireles Kuykendall, grandchildren Gavin Connolly, Paisley Hohenshelt, Mia Galaviz and Andi Kuykendall. He is also survived by his brothers Philip Coats and Ben and Debra Coats and numerous nieces and nephews along with truckload of other family.
