Man charged in Friday morning shooting

Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting in south Roswell early Friday morning that left a 68-year-old man injured.

Erin Buckner, 20, of Roswell, was arrested at noon Friday on one count each of aggravated battery and robbery with a firearm, according to a press release issued by the Roswell Police Department.

Buckner was found at a location on West Hobbs Street. He was detained and is being held without bond.

Police responded to the shooting Friday at 5:11 a.m. in the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant in the 1800 block of South Main Street, the press release states.

When police arrived, they found the victim lying in the parking lot after having been shot twice: once in the shoulder and once in the leg. He was taken by ambulance to an area hospital to be treated for injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The victim told police that before the shooting, he had been sitting in his vehicle when he was suddenly approached by the suspect, who initially asked for money before taking out a handgun and demanding the man’s wallet. According to the press release, the victim was shot after refusing to give his wallet to the suspect, who then fled the scene on a bicycle before police arrived.
