The event was held in the Commissioners Chambers in the Chaves County Administrative Building. Bateman was presented with an award by Childress for her work in the community and law enforcement. Bateman was one of seven award recipients — including four from area law enforcement agencies, one from the Pecos Valley Regional Communications Center and one from the Roswell Fire Department — who received a plaque, a travel mug and a gift card for being outstanding role models in their communities. The annual ceremony is usually held during Character Counts! Week in October. Fuller said last year’s ceremony was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. (Alex Ross Photo)
