Letter: Help Chaves County: Get vaccinated

Chaves County is the only county in New Mexico still ranked Yellow for COVID-19 statistics. I wonder why.

Maybe it’s because washing hands takes too long. Maybe it’s because the mild discomfort and inconvenience of wearing a mask is too much to bear to save the health and lives of neighbors. Maybe it’s because being socially distanced took all the fun out of life. Maybe it’s because following the science of vaccines is too hard, so it’s easier to not get a shot.

Maybe it’s because Chaves County and City of Roswell leaders scorned state-level efforts to save lives and encouraged the people and businesses of Chaves County to violate public safety mandates.

Whatever the reason for our pathetic numbers, there is something simple we can do to bring Chaves County out of the danger zone. We can all get vaccinated.

We could, of course, all wear masks, wash our hands and stay distanced, but that is obviously just too hard.
