No new local cases of COVID-19 Tuesday

No new cases of COVID-19 in Chaves County were reported in Tuesday’s daily update from the New Mexico Department of Health.

A total of 186 cases in 19 counties and one correctional facility were announced in Tuesday’s update. The most cases, 78, were reported at the Torrance County Detention Facility. Bernalillo County had 31 new cases, Sandoval County had 10 and San Juan County had 16. The remaining counties had 10 or fewer cases.

The total number of cases in the state is 202,405, with 8,998 in Chaves County.

Six deaths related to COVID-19 were announced Tuesday, with two each from Bernalillo and Valencia counties, one in Sandoval County and one in Santa Fe County.

The total number of deaths in the state is 4,251.

As of Tuesday, 133 people are hospitalized in the state for COVID-19.

More than 910,000 people in New Mexico age 16 or older, or 54.2%, of that population, are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and 64.4% have received at least one dose. In Chaves County, 34.5% are fully vaccinated and 40.2% have received at least one dose.

Chaves County is at the Green Level in the state’s COVID-19 risk assessment system, having met two of the three gating criteria used by the state. Those two criteria are average number of daily cases at or below 10 cases per 100,000 people and a test positivity rate of 7.5% or less. The county was at 5.6 cases per day and a test positivity of 2.38%. The goal for full vaccination rate in the latest assessment was 40%.
